The golem marches north, Carl jumps upon it and climbs atop it. As he rides it he laughs yelling how Captain Carl and his new mount will be putting that coward to the noose. After a while of tracking, the quartermaster's tracks lead into a cave. Carl dismounts and rubs his chin. He turns to Jack.

Mate, I know cowards fairly well, and I know a coward like him would probably resort to trying to ambush us or set traps in a cave like that. How do you wanna go about this. I think the golem could go in and he wouldn't be able to do much against it, but it might end up killing him on accident. Damn thing is big and clunky-doesn't seem like it could restrain a person without killing them.

Jack thinks for a minute.

He's only got two pistols, what we have to do, is have him fire them both, in which case his cutlass is is last weapon, he can't fight us all. That cavern is not very deep, so if we charge in we should be fine.

Carl laughs as he likes the plan and says he will lead the charge. He takes several steps back, he takes a deep breath as he rushes into the cave laughing as he does so. 2 shots are quickly heard, though carl continues rushing and before the QM can draw his cutlass Carl pounces on him. Despite the size difference the QM can't get carl off him, He shouts to Jack and his men.

I got the coward, come in and lets drag him out and beat him.

Jack helps Carl drag the QM out of the cavern, cursing as he does so. Jack has his men tie him up, jack then punches him across the face with such force that his crew cringe. Jack stares at the man with a look of pure hatred on his face, he then screams:

What kind of man are you?! What's the damn point of attempting to burn a city to the ground for no good reason?

The quartermaster just shakes his head as he spits into Jack's face.

I had a damn good reason you overdressed fool. Gale told me to do it, and If I didn't do it, he'd kill me and find someone who would. Just kill me and get it over with. I ain't telling more then that, my life don't matter no more, I failed. If I come back to Gale now he'd kill me or worse. If I go into hiding he'd hunt me down. Im dead no matter what now.

Jack grins wickedly.

Aye, you are. Take some time say your prayers.

Jack turns to carl

Do we need him anymore? Cause if we don't I'm gonna kill him.

Carl still smiling thinks.

Well he said Gale would have him killed. So if we lock him up maybe we could ambush the person gale sends to kill him. Though odds are that person would be just like him and not tell us nothing. I think there be magic and stuff that can take info outta a person brain whether or not they want it too, but I don't know no magic users. So what id do is to tell the town that tomorrow we plan to hang one of them men who torched the port and hang him at the ol hangin tree up the hill. I also recommend you blame him for the bombin of the local navy. Otherwise they might be wantin to hang 2 men tomorrow insteada one. Ill vouch for ya, and I doubt anyone would take this yella belly's word over ours.

Jack shakes his head.

Nay, they'll not know where he is, all we have to do is find where the ship, or ships that these men sail on are. Perhaps the captain is famous, and has a record. Although they say they came here in rowboats, you can't go in a rowboat from that far away, so there ships must be around here somewhere. Now, I need to kill this man, to show other fools who pass this way that you don't mess around with the likes of me.

Carl thinks back.

The man said that Gale dropped them off nearby, and left to do something else. Where he left to he didn't say, but he also said he planned to come back to pick the men up I think.

Carl searches the man, and after a while he finds a sealed letter. The QM says he was supposed to read that letter after he burned the port to the ground. He nearly forgot about it. Carl reads it aloud.

I am not coming back for you, if you succeeded in your mission, then steal some ships, go to the next port and burn it down too. Continue this with each port until you fail and die, or all ports are bunrt and destroyed. If you failed your mission, then just let yourself die now. I have more important things to do then come back for a failure.

Carl curses.

What kind of messed up man is this to want to burn every bloody port to the ground. It makes no sense. Regardless we should start helpin the locals. We can deal with the rest later.

Jack shakes his head

What kind of man indeed. But I'll kill him when I find him.

Jack lets the QM say his prayers, and then has him hung from a tree, jack the cuts him across the throat, and nails a sign above him which reads:

"This is what happens to those who kill for no reason, and get in my way"

Kack and his men walk back to the city
