Dow just laughs.

A body is just a vessel for the soul. And magic can very easily put a soul into a new vessel. Want to know a secret about Emily and Veera? Well you know they both are liches right? Well do you know how a person becomes a lich? They take their soul, and remove it from their body, and place it into something else. Then they let their body die, and reanimate it. By doing so, it makes them basically immortal. Only way to kill them is if you find where they hid their soul, destroy it, then kill their body. You could chop Veera or Emily to tiny pieces, burn it in a furnace into ashes, blast those ashes with holy energy and their body would reform after a while perfectly fine so long as their soul is fine.

Yes yes yes but the soul is literally what you are. If someone removes my soul, and puts Bob's soul in my body, that body would act like bob, not me.

That is true, but the point I'm making is that Veera could make your clone have a soul. Like that spectre in Gasp-put that in a body like yours full of skills of different warriors and you have a nightmare. But I do not think she would do so. As I said earlier, it makes things much more complicated and difficult to try to shove a soul into a body and expect it to do what you want.

The priest nods

Ah, I thought you meant something else.

Dow does look a bit serious as she says in a rather serious tone.

Just between us, I have heard of magic experiments being done to try to alter souls, and figure out how they work, what they consist of and other various tests and experiments. The results are quite honestly rather horrifying. our guild has that branch of magic banned, and even Veera doesn't mess with it. But not all mages agree with that view.

Jack decides to change the subject.

What we know about these killings?

Dow just shrugs.

Not gonna lie, I havn't looked into it. Wasn't intending to stick around, but since Veera left and I have nothing better to do, why not help. I do think that perhaps some sort of magic is being used, to help the killer stealth around and remain undetected, or perhaps they are just insanely skilled in this sort of killing.

A man comes in and shouts.

Oy, 3 more dead in the alley down the street. A kid and his parents, its a sorry sight.

Most of the bar, being full of mercs looking for the bounty get up, a few even fighting with each other as they begin preparing to head out and start looking for the killer. Dow gets up and stretches before her eyes flash and she snaps her finger and the mercs collapse. She motions to the others.

Come on, lets go inspect the bodies for clues. That 3 million gold bounty is a very nice reward, and I wouldn't mind getting a cut. So, our merc pals here need to take a nap so they won't get in our way.

Carl and Brian rush with them, though Dow just calmly walks along as she whistles a merry tune. After a moment they find the bodies, quite badly butchered. Dow calmly walks over and kneels next to them and inspects them. She begins making remarks as she takes out a note and begins jotting things down.

Missing some organs, multiple lacerations, burn marks, Numbers on the back like those nord told us.

She gets up having examined them and looks around.

No sign of a struggle, could have been caught off guard, or perhaps something was used to keep them from retaliating.

She shrugs as she begins walking back to the tavern as she whistles a haunting tune she calls back to the group as she leaves them.

Think I'm gonna get a few drinks. Maybe pickpocket all those mercs and see if they have any notes about the murders. Or just gold. I'm not picky.

The priest kneels down and begins to pray. Jack kneels down, as well as most of the people looking on. Those not kneeling fold their hands and bow their heads. In a few minutes, the priest gets up, crossing himself and the bodies are carried away. The priest and jack go into the tavern, the priest fuming.
