for me, this discussion went very quickly beyond phoenix offer and dealt with the 'unfairness' of the prices at the voodoo auction. unfairness in the sense that the auction does not reflect the actual value when the cards are used.
take for example a howker with ID#1, the actual price from the shipwright is irrelevant for collectors of rare ships. they see the ship from a different perspective and value it maybe up to a 1000 credits.
it is the same with voodoo cards. What you get out of it by using the card is only one way of valuing that card. When people pay more than 'what they could get out of it by casting that card' then these people see that card from a different perspective and value it from their perspective.
imo it is the clash of different perspectives that drives this discussion
