hmm. Doesn't ring any bells. Though melding things together isn't all that big a feat. Pretty common trick honestly, its actually how chimeras are made usually, though most mages wouldn't do so on humans or other sentient beings. Both unethical and rather dangerous. I recall an old former classmate of mine decided to meld several men and some beasts together to make a super strong guard, and well she made a super strong guard alright, which promptly killed and ate her. She wasn't a very smart woman, certainly not a nice one either.

But monotone voices. That's strange to say the least. Sentient undead possibly, or just magical servants of another kind. Could also be a custom creation. Like those Une i made who all have grating voices. Can you explain what this mage looked like? Was he undead in any way? A lich perhaps? Many of them are the type to do horrible things like that.

Regardless doesn't really matter. I know he isn't a member of the Mage guild, we have rules against things like that. Again, not so much for moral reasons but more so for practical and safety ones.

He was of average height, good looking, he had black hair and beard, and the complexion and clothes of those living near the Mediterranean.

Eh, can't think of anyone fitting that description. Though honestly unless a mage goes and does something really dangerous and stupid I rarely take notice of other mages. Well with a few exceptions of very big potential threats. By far my greatest enemy is that deceitful wretch Medea. But her aside, good luck in the battles tomorrow. I suggest you stock up on healing potions, some other provisions-it will be a long hard battle for all involved. But enjoy tonight while you can.

Brian nods and leaves to go stock up on whatever he can, Carl follows suit, and the next morning the group goes to the arena where Emily greets them. There are a large number of people gathered there, and they are being filed into different rooms. Emily smiles at them as she begins to explain what the competition is.

Okay, so for this big old event, the arena, while big isn't large enough to host what we have planned. So, instead we are teleporting the contestants to a large island and using that. It's pretty simple really- there is going to be 3 ways for a group to win. Beat every other group until your the last group standing, or go and collect 10 flags across the island, or the hardest one, go to the center of the island and beat the guardian there. The winning group is going to be getting a huge prize. But there's a lot of competition. If your willing and ready just go to a nearby room and wait.

Jack and James who are armed with as many firearms and potions they can carry nod and go to a room to wait.

Brian and Carl both follow, and after waiting a few minutes a bright light flashes blinding them, and when they can see again they find themselves in the middle of a few old torn up buildings. A loud voice echoes all around them.

And the competition now begins. Quick refresher, last group standing wins, or if someone beats the guardian in the center ruin or finds all 10 flags. There will also be monsters and other creatures hunting down contestants, have fun good luck.

Nearby another group spots them, 2 of them rush in with sword and shield while the other 2 duck into some bushes for cover and begin firing upon them. Brian raises his shield and charges, Carl laughs and shouts as he charges.

Alright action right off the start cool.

Jack and James aim at the bushes at fire in unison. One shot hits the other misses. James pulls one of his many pistols and fires, taking the out the one he missed.

Brian and Carl both manage to beat their opponents without much difficulty, and they quickly disappear once beaten. Brian turns to the others to speak when a small map pops nearby. He examines it and see's its a map of the island with a note attached from Emily-forgot to give you this map beforehand, so here ya go. Brian examines it and speaks to the others.

So, how do you guys want to try to win this. I definitely think we can beat any other group here, or we could try to beat that guardian in the center. As for the flags, that sounds too annoying in my opinion, that's something I think only the weaker groups would try to do, but it would be good to find one flag so no one can win that way.

Jack nods

We should find one of the flags so that they can't win that way. I suggest we should then see what the guardian is, and if it's too hard then we should beat the hell out of everyone else here. And on the way we should beat anyone we find. How's that sound?
