Fair enough...however, self supply does increase the profitability under the right circumstances...a combination of maxed technology and sufficient warehouse space in critical ports.

But you are correct that you can exist in a bubble if you are willing to pay for it. I suppose the study I should do is cost of running my own supply lines vs accepting the market cost in my plantation ports is in order.

All that just buying the supplies is fine becaus someone has to go get those things and put them there - the game still happens.

What I really think is that the plantations should be worked out differentely - there should be a negotiation period for everyone and then, depending on how much you where willing to spend and how much the others where willing to spend one got more or less acres and lost more or less turns. By the way, it would be cool if you did not need acres to just keep immigrantes on good conditions.
At least it is what came to my mind. What do you guys have to say?

Well as someone whom has slave plantation (own it just so that I can sell workers) I they are at 80 + % health and 50% happines. Still good conditions which sky rocket if conditions on new plantation are good

Only on slave plantation I can't sell them if they are dead. So you could say those workers are lucky ones they don't work just lay and eat

So, you don't actually produce anything? Just hire/import workers feed them but not work them, then sell them via the market?

Exactly if we speak about slave plantation while on others I just work them till they die and just import new to replace dead. No investments expect fleets carrying new workers so it is just profit small but still profit. Whileoin slave plantation it is not regular profit but when it hits it hits enough for me to see it again as profitable practice.

I like plantation because of it they offer different way to approach them
