The priest frowns

Gasp has only beeen held by the Spanish for about a 100-200 years, the inquisition was done by then. I heard about a similar incident, that was shorter but worse in a way, but that was done by France, not by the Spaniards. But regardless, this explains a great deal.

Actually jack, the inquisition ended in 1834. and was founded in 1478. So at this time period it would actually still be happening. And even if it wasn't 1-200 years back would DEFINATELY be during the time it was very active.

Fine. But almost nothing happened during the early 1700s, it's worst time was during the medieval period, maybe a little bit happened, but nothing so massively bad as the medieval period.

Frank said it happened quite a few years ago. And even if they weren't as active they still were around, so it makes sense they would purge a group of heretics if they were informed of them-like they were in Frank's story. But my main point in bringing this up is, the priest tried to correct frank and tell him they weren't around to do what Frank said they did when they very much were.

Edit- And also going back 1-200 years from the current time period would land you right in the middle of when they were VERY active. as that would be 1500-1600. Founded in 1478 so that covers nearly the first 130 years.

Actually if you reread it he says "quite a few years ago DURING the Spanish inquisition. So that establishes the time frame, but doesn't give an exact date. And again, my main point is that the priest is wrong in what he is saying. He is claiming that gasp was held by the Spanish for 1-200 years and that the inquisition was DONE by then. Which is completely and utterly inaccurate. Hell technically speaking since the official end of it is 1834, that means even in modern time as of now if we went back 200 years it would be active. So in the 1700's going back by 200 years ago takes you nearly to the beginning. If your fine with the priest being wrong about it, that's fine, but I will be having frank point out his mistake-especially since the priest is basically telling Frank that his story is essentially wrong. I only bring this up because I wanted to give you the chance to correct yourself. Its fine if you don't.

And the last official execution of the inquisition was 1826. So even if they are not as active, they are still executing people during the time this story takes place. Even if it isn't to the same degree as they used to.

Frank looks confused for a second but shrugs.

Inquisition is still going on mate, but ill just assume the smell down here is mucking with your head, or the whispers confused you for a bit.

Carl and Brian nod as they cover their noses.

Yeah, this place reeks of booze, feces and urine. Hard to think in this smell.

Emily laughs

Being dead has its benefits, I can't smell a thing.

You can just say the priest was confused by the whispers, or if you prefer the smell confused him if you want. I imagine being a priest he's probably never dealt with being in a sewer full of awful smells.
