Role-Play- Pirating in the Caribbean

Postby Meliva » Sun Feb 18, 2018 12:55 am

Okay this roleplay is going to be quite different then all the others we have had so far. This one will both be taking place in a real world place-The Caribbean, and is going to be the first RP I'm making that is going to be a 1 on the realistic scale. As in this is going to be nearly real life realistic-so No voodoo magic(well none that actually does anything, you can have your characters believe in it and practice it, but can't actually do anything special with it), no sea monsters that do not actually exist, and any fight you get in, it needs to be believable how you win it. So if you try and say that your single character somehow can go up and fight 8 pirates at once by themselves, either you better have some sort of clever idea, or kiss your character good bye. Slight embellishments will be fine however. Saying they fought off 3 would be okay, for example.
In this RP you can take the name and role of an actual pirate, a navy captain, or any other historical figure present in the golden age of piracy, or make your own. Rules are as follows

1. Try to keep things in character. Don't post something unrelated to the RP here. If you don't like this RP, don't complain about it here. Post a new thread or start your own RP thread if you don't like this one. I would actually be quite happy if someone posts a RP of their own so please feel free to do so.
2. You can control your characters actions-You can not control others. NPC's are fair game and anyone can control them, so long as its believable and in character. A guard for example shouldn't just up and decide to shoot an orphan for no reason-that is out of character. Anyone without a name will be considered a NPC, if you name a character but want it to be a NPC then just mention that said character is NPC in quotation marks after a post.
3. You are allowed to have multiple characters- but be reasonable. Don't flood the story with a bunch of your characters. 2 or 3 in one story is fine, anything past that is sort of pushing it unless you are really good at managing them.
4. Use Italics for actions, and try to separate things nice and neat. Also use paragraphs when needed.
5. This RP is meant to be quite realistic. So before you have your character or crew do something ask yourself-could this be done in real life? How likely would it be that it would work? How can I make it believable?
6.This rule is very important, but since this RP is going to be super realistic, it can and will be possible for PC's to die if they do something reckless or stupid repeatedly, they wont die the first time they act this way unless its VERY reckless or stupid, but for every time they do something that would get most people killed, the more likely they will end up dead.
7. The most important rule- Have fun.

Next post begins the story.

Its a bright and sunny day in a large port on the island of Haiti, inside a local tavern plenty of men drink, eat and having a good time. On the wall line posters of various pirates, wanted for some reason or another, and there be rumors that an incredibly large coalition is being formed between England, France and Spain to amass a Fleet so large and powerful as to wipe out piracy in the Caribbean for good. But as it stands they just be rumors, and few take such a thing to heart. In the tavern a tall grisly looking man shouts that he is the pirate captain Franklin Frankie Frankson the 5th, and he is looking for more men to join his crew for a very lucrative opportunity that will set everyone up for life if it goes well. Several men volunteer and he stands around seeing who else may come.

A tall, handsome, well-dressed man walks into the tavern door. He wears a red waistcoat, a hat with a red feather, a fanciful shirt, a gold cross around his neck, a brace of pistols in a sash, and a smallsword. His face is dirty, a strange contrast with his clothes. His name, is Bartholomew Roberts, most of the men in the tavern, whisper among themselves as he walks in, scowling. He walks over to the bar.

I'd like a cup of strong tea.

The bartender just looks at him with a deadpan expression says to him.

This is one of the seediest, rundown taverns in the entire port, what on earth makes you think we have tea of any sort here. We have rum, and water.

Captain Frank laughs as he says to the man.

If you want tea I hear the governor here has a huge stash of the junk, try raiding him, that would be a sight to see.

Bart Roberts seethes. He grabs the bartender by the jacket and pullls him close, holding a knife to his throat. Bart looks around at the man.

I burned st kitts, I hung the governor of Martinique from the yardarm of my ship, stole treasure from the Portuguese fleet without loosing a single man, AND YOU DARE LAUGH AT ME?

he then turns to the petrified barkeep, still holding a knife to his throat.

Now then, find me some proper tea, or I'll kill you, understand?

i assume it's safe for him to be doing this as I thought it's a pirate tavern, but then you mentioned the governor.

Another man walks in, he had the some traveling cloth on, he went by the name of Oliver, a former guard employed by a powerful merchant, he sees Bart threatening the man and draws a short sword
I will advise you to leave that man alone.

Frank, and almost every single other man in the bar get up and point a gun at Bart. Frank says in a very serious voice.

Mate, your an idiot if you think you can walk in here, ask for something, then throw a bleeding sissy fit like a child and threaten us for not having tea. Now drop that little dinky knife, and go bugger off. Sad little man that you are you can't take an ounce of someone poking fun at you.

Jack, remember this RP is meant to be VERY realistic, having bart do this in a tavern he has never been to before and having come in alone is not a smart thing to do, I almost thought about just having all these men shoot and kill him but I'm going to let you off with a warning this time okay? Try to think things through and not just do what you think would look cool or badass.

And no, putting a knife to a man's throat in a tavern he has never been to before is not safe-regardless of who owns or frequents the tavern, and Frank was ribbing him about the governor.

in my quotes I'm referring to you when I say Jack. That's somewhat a confusing issue honestly having your characters share a name. But what bart did is basically suicidal, and I just want you to know that doing things rashly and without thinking it through in this RP may get a character killed.

I also forgot one of the rules I planned to add, so I'm going to add that right quick.
