DezNutz - Name Change

Captain Jack made an excellent point in the Names topic. The community should be policing one another and should only involve the Admins if we as a community can't resolve the issue. As others have said, the Admins have other things to worry about and player names isn't on the top of their list.

That being said, I have discussed this with CJ and we see this topic as a fair start to resolve this issue. This topic will be a poll of the community on the appropriateness of my name and if I should change it. The poll will last 1 week. I will abide by the outcome. If the community sees that I should change my name, I will do so. If the community does not, I will not, unless the Admins decide that my name requires a change.

Please keep the comments on topic.

My personal opinion of the matter is that based on the rules stated if my name isn't a violation it certainly pushes the limit. In the scheme of things, I chose my name as the Video and Meme were popular at the time, the name is hilarious when you think about it in regards to Titles/Ranks, and the names I wanted to use were already taken. I had at one point thought of changing my name, but decided against it due to the community knowing me by DezNutz.

If I have to change my name, I do have one that I may use, but I am open to suggestions.

If an admin isn't telling you it is wrong then why bother. If it fits the community standards that he is pushing for then why bother. The fact there is a poll is a bit unorthodox as I have yet to see the community vote on any other name that may or may not have been controversial. Defeats the whole purpose imo. As the community was not given the same right to vote on other forced named changes it reeks of favoritism. But I am content to see your name stay the same, it will provide amusement or at the very least a chuckle when the next forced name change occurs. So I will be voting it stays as is.

For those where English isn't their primary language, understanding and how to interpret innuendos and idioms is difficult. From what I have discussed with the Admins (summarizing here), they are undecided on the appropriateness of my name and waiting for input from a select few individuals.

As I stated in the FP, CJ made an excellent point in the other topic for issues such as this, the community should be able to police ourselves and should only get the Admins involved. This topic is policing ourselves.

It originally started as an abbreviation for "This is nuts" or " He is nuts" depending on the context. Naturally, it evolved to be short for "these nuts" in reference to male genitalia .
Now you are correct that these is a famous Instagram user who goes by it, which is why I don't see it as an offensive nickname.
We all come from different countries and backgrounds and while nearly all of us know English, select few know other languages beside their own and English.

As a result, anything that has English basis will be subjected to more scrutiny than any other language to the point of unfairness. While I advocate for clean gaming, I don't believe this one should even be a concern.

I agree. Your name isn't a problem, as this hasn't been a topic before and you have had your name for a long while now. Considering your activity with the forums, this would have been mentioned a long time ago about this. Why it is happening is unknown to me, as this is not a concern needed to be discussed at all. There are more problems that we should be focusing on, and this shouldn't be one of them.

Names that are obviously fowl and crude should be targeted. Deznutz is not an issue, considering 35,467,409 other people have seen this (at least.) Chances are that kids have used this during school and on parents as a joke or prank as well. This hasn't been a problem in society at all (except that the meme is dead of course.) A name like Richard Head is another example. It doesn't directly say anything inappropriate, but Richard is another name for ****, which is a name and not the male anatomic term (which is what was implied with the name.)

Unless the name is directly fowl or crude, it should be fine. ICU81 is an fine example of A-OK. (For example purposes only) Bigdick6969 would be fowl and crude. This would be the primary target for fowl names. Deznutz is fine as it is.

Not true, the joke stemmed from a direct quote from a rapper in an album and movie, it was a direct quote from Ice Cube. Not adding that to an argument, merely being informative.

I think the Names thread digressed into what it did because it felt like a double standard that garrett needed to change his fleet names, which I felt were fairly tame yet Deznuts was allowed. My thought is that neither of them are particularly offensive and I think it was an overreach to require that anything be changed. I vote that the name be allowed. My only hope is that the dialogue has made a point that this is all a bit silly, everyone I talked to thought garrett's fleet names were hilarious. That fact that this is even a discussion is a bit funny.

I agree they were. Yet rude. And some might say offensive. We called ourselves 'TWATS' and were forced to change it as other people, who weren't even part of the guild, found offense in us mocking ourselves. However garrets fleets were personalized by using other people's names in it. Dez Nutz though, isn't pointed at anyone or anything, and people see it the way they see it. I think it's funny. Puts a smile on my face every time. Offensive or not

Don't asked why but your name always reminded me of the character in Ice Age chasing his acorn. After reading the meaning that others attached to your name that inocent image is forever ruined.
