Well, games have to make realism, fun, and workability meet. Voodoo isn't something most people would call real, it's been added for the fun and I presume workability aspects.
I am certainly no expert, but I don't think that taking 5 stats points off the biggest ship there is will be an answer to a card that removes a level? You have a card that adds a level, so why not one that removes a level? The biggest problem with this seems to be either that it can be used to destroy small players or that it's really expensive to replace that lost level. If the worry is that the old rich people can just run over anybody else, lets get more cards with a % based negative affect so they feel it more.
