I have 17.6m workers in Chalkos
Fields 6,031,272 Workers
Housing 180,000 Stewards
Utility Buildings 1,600,000 Laborers
Kitchens 900,000 Staff members
Baths 300,000 Caretakers
Recreational Areas 600,000 Entertainers
Where are the other 8 million hiding?
I believe excess workers were listed as available field workers previously?

my guess is that it only shows workers that fit on the field acres, so if you have acres on fields only for 6m workers, the missing 8m are hiding behind the corner, slacking?

Field Acres are limited to a specific number of workers as well.
If the total workers exceeds the workers needed for the acres you have, the remaining workers are only shown in the total workers.

I have never noticed it before, it's not something I keep much of an eye on but I feel I would have.
I recall CJ explaining that excess workers was a good thing, meant the workers did less work and were healthier.
Given that, not displaying them in some form seems a lack, not an intent?

Actually, they are not slacking. All are working on shifts. The number at the fields, show how many can they work there at maximum. To raise this number, allocate more acres to fields.
If you have 10 workers at the fields and 10 excess workers, 20 workers will work but half the hours each.

How does that work? Let's say I have 2000 workers, but only enough field acres for 1000 to work at once. I set the work hours to 8 hours. Will they all work 4 hours each per day, then? Would that be equivalent to the situasjon where I employ just 1000 workers for 8 hours a day, when it comes to how much they produce, yet equivalent to the workers working 4 hour days when it comes to how much rest they get?

Does that also work for housing/baths etc.... afterall while one shift is working in the fields, the other could be sleeping. It would seem that if it should be the same across all improvements.
Also .... where does it End then. let's say the field can accommodate 1000 workers could I then have 2400 workers, set my workday to 24 hrs. Each worker would only work 1 hour a day and would never get to the "exhausted" stage.
It would seem to me this needs to be defined a bit more by admin.
....... info would have been nice to know 2 years ago when plantations were released.
the only fair way to do it then is to make it the same across all improvements. after all..... one shift could be working in the fields while another is eating the kitchen, one taking baths, one shift on rec fields and so on. next hour they rotate.
Otherwise, the field thing is an issue.

I doubled my workers and work hours in a small plantation
went from 9 to 18 hour work day. Now accoding to CJ, I should have 2 shifts of workers working 9 hours each.
After roughly 12 hours I am on track to have about the same production as with half the workers at a 9 hour day.
conclusion.....
production DOES NOT increase. All you are doing is burning through twice the resources for the same output.

That would represent a very plain misrepresentation by admin if it's the case, and like you, my belief is that it does not benefit production.
