ok i feel kinda dumb for asking this but are my ships lvling on thier own or did i just forget that i lvled them up 1 lvl?

Unless someone used an expedition journey on you (which is highly doubtful if you didn’t ask for it), you forgot you leveled them up

Maybe you misclicked it when you were using mass leveling function
