Under normal circumstances when you become Marques at update you are promoted to Duke. However,when the nation has 10 Dukes and you are a Marque{By default} you are not allowed to do anything that Dukes are allowed to do.

Why are marques who are not allowed to get Duke rank not allowed the same benefits as Dukes?

It makes you work harder for Duke

That's my point the nation can't have more than 10 so if I gain Duke someone will be demoted to Marque.

The Dukes are the 10 highest influence players that have achieved the marquess rank. They are given more permissions and power because there is another qualification to their rank

They are separate ranks : Marquess carries its own reward on attainment : being raised to Duke and Council is NOT automatic, conditions must be met, of which the 10 duke limit is one, in the same way that being raised to Governor is also NOT automatic, it does need the nation to have a port to govern and you to hold sufficient influence.

Because dukes invested money and time in their influence while marquess only did missions
