There are many ways of making gold. It depends what your resources are right now. If you just started, setting up fishing or trading routes would be a best bet unless you already have a "fighting fleet".
You can send me a message if you would like (#53069) and I can give you ideas.

Ahoi!

Im a bit confused on the levelling of ships..

As for the traider ships i can understand -correct me if im wrong plz ;)- you put all your points on sails (you want them to move fast between ports) ..

But what to do on your battle ships... i have searched the forums on this but havent found much..

I managed to find this :

Ship Upgrade Attributes Points Distribution:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Do not upgrade these two:
Iron scantling,
Round shot.

Do these Ship Attribute upgrades in their order.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
1/ cotton sails
2/ double hammocks.
3/ bronze cannon
4/ lastly copper plating

But nothing on the why it should be done this way.. nor on the points distribution of how many .. or a %

Anyone can help me here ?

A bit more info would be helpfull... are there for different setups for different ships or is it all the same ....

Why would you not want to upgrade the Iron scantling and the Round shot... etc. etc..

I thought it was better to just go hammock max, sails max, bronze max, rest in copper plating. I don't know why, though.
PM me any complaints (10M gold coin wire fee is mandatory).

Some folk do things different ways : there is no hard and fast rule written anywhere : most times, you work it out for yourself, or with others, and eventually find what works for you : each ship type has advantages and disadvantages.. where you then place the attributes can boost the advantages further, or you may choose to mitigate the weakness somewhat : an example is 'iron scantlings' : these give you greater protection from damage : some ship types, like galleons, are fairly weak (defensively) to start with, and so take a lot of damage very quickly : boosting iron scantlings on that type makes them survive a bit longer in a fight : but they are cheaper to build and crew and often carry good amounts of cargo : that makes them okay as trade escort vessels, able to keep a small to medium war-ship at bay, but not much use in a real fight with big warships : so, horses for courses.
Next, players have different strategies in a fight : some put their strongest ships first and hope to win all the rounds in a cascade : some like to put a weaker ship first as a 'soaker' : this is to weaken the main opponents ship, then your strong ships following it take the advantage thru the rest of the rounds : a 'soaker' needs to be able to take lots of damage to draw the fire out of the other lead ship ; for such, I would go with iron scantlings as a priority over, say, copper plating.
experiment, look at your own battles, look at guildmates battles.. see what combinations seem to work, ask why some ships always seem to beat what should be equal power ships : its in the stacking, which is another reason players dont post too much about their choices there... knowledge truly is power in that case.

I have a question. Its regarding the forum user accounts. i would like to bring the attention to the left pane of every post, where your forum avatar, name, posts, joined date and PM the player are present.

I notice that some people have a picture of a blue metal blob on the top right of the left plane. Some, like Chaulbad have a promo page linked to a button under their pic. Somebody please tell me what this is. How do you configure those things? (Like the funny one about the location I managed)

That metal knob indicates that the specific user is currently browsing the forums, just like you.

The promo id can be found if you click at Turns Count -> Earn Credits (not available to everyone).
