Judging from your fleets I would guess you coin which makes up for mistakes easily but to some that is not an option. You should enjoy the game either way. I was just pointing out that turns are squandered easily when they can actually be beneficial. :beer

I do for sure, but never do when trying a game out, a product has to prove itself to be worth investing in (coin & time) for that to happen.
I would have been well outside the current protection system before spending anything.

I am a keen MMORPG player and have been paying Blizzard's fees for almost 12 years now, the relevance being that protection played no part in my ongoing play or pay there, as here, but I acknowledge it's not the same for all.

Worst thing you can advice them is to save turns tonstay in protection because you are crippling their growth that way. In a position of newcomer you love free gifts but that way you are crippling yourself as you are expecting gifts all the time. Don't get me wrong newcomer can't develope and grow without gold coins then advise them to seek loan or if you own bank offer them loan not big as a newcomer with 1M and good advices you can develope to the point where you can repay that loan in a week and a half . So weather you want to be pirate, merchant or a noble you need to build basic income either way.

I agree a guild is the best bet but even your statement shows the need for caution with turns as yours was just as wasted as mine. I can not speak for every guild but HELM was the one I was in and I did learn there. But overall a basic concept of what the turns are truly worth should be explored before random usage turns them to a wasted mess of nothing. :beer

Actually that is awesome way of using turns I learned a lot from wasting those turns I learned a lot of things and that is amazing feeling of starting new adventure. We learn best from our mistakes and I wouldn't change that for nothing because it meade me player which I am today

Well speaking from my waste I hardly learned anything from dropping turns on being a porter other than it was wasted. I would gladly give the paltry sum back for my turns today lol. There are many more lessons to be learned that could utilize those turns while creating a more productive and prepared noob. :beer

I agree the game is worth spending for a little fun. I have gamed a bit with other developers as well and have found your quite right on a game needing to prove itself before spending which pg normally does. However if a new player is not ready it can be intimidating and prove in that player's mind to disagree or not stay the course. I just don't find taking your time to learn and withholding turn spending as an exploit. :beer

I find that generosity works well with new players. Gives them a boost large enough to get them going but small enough to where they still have to do work. Bypasses the need for a loan when they first start. I think loaning to newer players is a poor idea. It creates debt for a new player, that they now have to payoff on top of getting themselves going.

Generosity works better, indeed. The card concept and message as well as the amount of gold can amaze any newcomer. However, using this as a primary method of raising new players is unrealistic. Before loans, this is what we did in HELM. After loans, I personally use Generosity only rarely. It certainly has better uses. At least it's a cheap card. Loans are also better because of this cost, which is better suited to go to the newcomer pocket rather than in vain. Although, the way you work with new players should match your own style so if you feel Generosity is the way, you should follow it. Although Sending a Payment to a bank, should be a better option.

Casting Buried Treasure to newcomers that are active but their gold is near zero, this yes, this helps.

True I always have couple dozens of burried treasure for newcomers when they show on plunder with big ships and small purse. Yes generosity is a great way to help them but it has better uses and putting some responsability on a new players like returning small loan on low intresst is main reason why I built my bank was to give loans to newcomers in my previouse guild. I can say that 90% loans were returned before the deadline and players were greatful for it. Of course I had different approach to my own players whom I was mentoring but that is old story for different topic and different time.
“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”

Yes, Generosity should not be the primary method of raising new players. And I agree that Buried Treasury and Send a Bank Payment are also good tools. I think situation dictates their usage. Loans are definitely helpful but in my opinion should be reserved to players that have made it past the first hurdle. Generosity, Send a Bank Payment, and Buried Treasury are a good means to get them to and past the first hurdle. Giving them a loan before they have reached that hurdle, in my opinion, is a setup for failure. I'm sure that anyone helping a new player just doesn't help any new player. They meet a minimum set of requirements to get help, such as something as simple as being active daily or actively asking questions, etc. I would sure hope that no one is just handing new players gc without them showing something to have earned that help.
