A little strange to count Hong Kong as a "country", perhaps, but still.

6 and 5 are Germany? I assume a typo.

Ah, yes. The UN. That's a trustworthy group. Weren't some UN Officials recently caught on video having sex with hookers in official vehicles.

Still doesn't change the fact, that no other country provides the freedoms on the same scale that America does. While there are things that some may view as better for the life they live, nothing trumps freedom.

1. They have a life here, and wouldn't want to abandon it just to get the benefits of those countries.

2. They have a job, and moving would require them to quit.

3. Immigration is a long and dreadful process which often takes years.

4. Americans are too lazy to learn a foreign language. We think of learning a second language as a hard task worth noting when someone does. But in most other countries people regularly learn 2nd, 3rd, and 4th languages like it's no big deal. Most Americans are most comfortable when they don't have to put any effort into talking.

5. If you move to a different country, you can't take many things with you.

I think we should model ourselves after a system that is even parts successful for all and ambitious. Ambition is important for making real progress, and without it we would be stuck in an endless cycle. That is part of the reason that I hold what many people call "unreasonable" beliefs, and set "unrealistic" goals.

EDIT: America refers to two entire continents, not just the US! I wish we had a real demonym for ourselves, other than American. In Spanish there is the word "Estadounidense" which basically means "United Statesian"

I doubt the average person knows for languages. I myself know English and Mandarin with my mandarin being kinda fluent and I used to know cantonese when I was small although I forgot all that and I learn't italian in primary school but I hated my italian teacher so I did not learn much. But yes more and more people are bilingual but not neccesarilly multilingual

And again, people might want to move but it's too much of a hassle to wait for their app to be accepted and to move all their belongings.

A better country isn't just about how easy it is to get a job.

Strawman.

Using your logic:

Have you lived in another country? I doubt it. What countries have you been a citizen of? Guess you don't know if those other countries are better, because you have never lived there.

Fact. No other country provides the freedoms that America does on the scale that America does. When you can prove otherwise, then I will accept that there may be a better country.

I strongly disagree that America has more freedom than any other country. Other Western countries like Australia definitely have the same amount of freedoms and some you could argue have more freedom

That is a poor measure of freedom.

In Afghanistan they give young men an AK47 as a birthday gift.

In certain African countries they force children into armies and hand them a gun too.

Neither marks any kind of free society.

To quickly answer blue's answer to nothing is good when taken to extremes, that is easily wrong.

Let's say someone decides that nothing is better then something, builds a giant bomb that will wipe out all matter in the universe so that nothing remains. I think most would argue- that is certainly not good. So even nothing, when taken to extremes is bad. Though I don't think his answer was meant to be taken seriously.

On the subject of life in America vs other countries, I would argue that America has more freedom then most other countries. Many other western nations have limits on the freedom to own guns, some don't have protected freedom of speech like America etc. Now you could argue that some of those freedoms are not good, hell you could use my own philosophy that too much freedom is a bad thing, which I would agree with. You should not have the freedom to sleep with anyone you want, so long as you can trick, overpower or drug them for example.

As for the point of americans being too lazy to learn a new langauge, I find that rather insulting. I took a couple years in highschool to learn Spanish. Thought it was fun, and hoped it would be useful. It was not. I had no one to speak with in Spanish, and over a decade of never using what I learned I have forgotten most of it. Now, I am of the opinion that unless I plan to travel to another country, I won't bother learning a new language if I have no oneto speak with in it. Because I know that I'll just slowly forget it. Which makes it a waste of time.

how is having more guns freedom? Your country just has less strict gun laws. That is a terrible way to measure freedom. Oh look I have a AR 15 to shoot with, WOW I'm blessed with SO MUCH FREEDOM WOOO YAY

maybe you guys should have a different language in the curriculum like Mandarin because it has more speakers than English ones mostly because of lots of chinese people I guess. Or French or something

I can't speak for everyone in America, but In my entire life, I have never met a person who spoke Mandarin, or French. I've met Spanish speakers, but never had a reason to talk to them in Spanish, as most of them learned English. I also didn't want to try to speak to folks I barely knew in spanish just to practice it.

So if I had learned any other language, I would have forgotten it just like I forgot spanish. As with no reason to use it, and not taking time to practice it I would simply forget it. In America the best 2nd language you could learn would be Spanish. I'm fairly certain that's the most common language you will find in America next to english. Though certain areas might differ depending on factors.
