If it were up to you, you would force folks to help other's, by taking their money and giving it to other's. That's what a tyrant would do. Why stop there? Why not have folks spend every Saturday doing community projects or pay an extra fine? I mean, folks need homes, why not force folks to build them? You're already forcing folks to give their money, might as well give some time too. Oh, a person can live with only one kidney, so maybe force healthy young folks to give an organ to folks who need it. Plenty of folks could benefit from that.

Are you starting to see why just because you might have a good reason to do something, doesn't mean you should be able to do it? Aid-Should-Not-be-Forced. You shouldn't take someone's money, you shouldn't take someone's time, or their organs or items they don't need. Forcing folks to do what you want, is tyrannical.

I even offer a better method. make it to where folks WANT to help other's, by promising tax cuts, reduced jail times, cheaper utility bills, cheaper rent, plenty of ways you could do that.

Mel, while giving a good incentive to donate is nice, and would be great if everyone did it, you are forgetting that this is America. Universal healthcare is "forcing" anyone to help each other. It is just providing care for those who can't afford it, at the expense of the taxpayers. I didn't say that everyone with x amount of money needs to become a doctor. The amount of taxes that everyone would have to pay would be A. barely noticeable and B. cheaper for most people than actually paying for healthcare themselves. The way I see it, it's not you paying for other people, it's everyone paying a said percentage of their income, and then everyone getting healthcare. If you think about it that way, and not in the isolationist perspective that you are, you will see why it makes sense.
