I find the focus on only considering the OP is false. Why for any discussion at all on it if that is all a decision can be based on? Ideas are proposed. Not always fully and not always in full awareness of other factors. The discussion can bring these forward. They can spark new and better ideas. The 'why didnt I think if that!' moments that may not happen until some-one starts the discussion.
Its all very well to say variations or developments of an OP should have their own thread but then we get the long grass syndrome. I have done this, created a new thread to develop such a variation. It's still out there somewhere and long forgotten. What chance the three or four threads this discussion would so create? Do we all have basically the same discussion in five threads?
Player retention is difficult. Nations are difficult for new players to wrap their heads around. I think the OP recognises that and offers one solution. I think other potential solutions belong in this thread to be considered alongside the same arguments and points.
Otherwise, let's not waste bandwidth with any discussion at all and restrict all comments on an OP to + or -1 since that is all that seems to matter.
