The point of the post is to make sure everyone is aware and band together when the time arises before it has gotten too late. Their tax income is especially higher than most other, and their players are active and strong. Tho, saying this might anger them?

It's self-correcting. Yes, they could use that income to take every port. Yes they could strong-arm and bully the entire player-base. But what then? We all say 'Sod this for a game. No fun at all' and go find our fun elsewhere. It's not compulsory to be here. It's not compulsory to stay. It's not forbidden to leave. So they would be left as Kings of an empty game. Not very ambitous.
Or they annoy enough folk to end up being the target of all. That's another self-correction. He who defends everything defends nothing. That's a military truth. But an Empire MUST defend everything. Once a corner crumbles it all comes down in a heap damn fast. And it's expensive. The low value ports will need the same level of spending as the high. For once the spell of invincibility is broken so is the Empire.
Another self-correction is Ego. How long can so many driven egos, all equally convinced of their own awesomeness accept that only one can be King? It rots from within, as Rome did. The ego needed to build an Empire is never adaptable or humble enough to sustain it.
I say let them go for it. They will fail. Its inevitable. And if they succeed for a short while? Amazing. A unique achievement. They rule a bunch of pixels. Hooray!

+1

What do you call assets that are less than intangible? :D Your very wise in your Donkey loving mildly pessimistic ways.

SHM was absolutely correct. There is a large group of us who have been very passive while trying to build large empires, which leads to fear of loosing all that work, while others of us maintain a handful of fleets and have nothing to loose but their boredom and money.

Now im not a smart man, but if I were I would say the ease of which all is lost would indicate that this game wasn't designed to be a long term build game, which is fine, but then we should except that fact. We are all used to playing games that are a bit more balanced if designed for "building". This game is heavily shifted to the voodoo nuclear option, which is a shame, but its the way it is, and also means you need to be very active or very quite and off the radar. This is why all threads end up looking like a guild chat.

Danik makes a great point, it will self correct one way or another, for some of us only have the power we give them. Some of us work very well together and have use that to their advantage, and is actually great game play for the way they want to play, the only question is is their style of game play actually good for the game, or does there need to be one of Daniks described Corrections?

Only one can be king???

I think your thinking is flawed Danik... We are all kings! We all have a seat at the head of the table. We all lead and follow equally. We share the same ideology. Because of this we succeed. This was the premise of creating VUDU all those many moons ago.

We are all Kings sir
I don't fear death. I look forward to it with great anticipation. For then I will met God face to face and let him know that I stole his Man of War!!!

If no one rules there will be chaos! I say let chaos reign!! It’s Pirates Glory after all.

Is it good for the game? As you describe it, you consider this to be just another sim game. I have never looked at it that way. I used the sim, or as you describe it, the "build" portion of the game to simply feed my other game play activities. I consider sim, or "build" games boring as hell. Their objective is simply growth and wealth.

The main reason I love PG is the fact that I can change styles in a heartbeat. If I want to turn pirate i simply sell off everything but a few cheap fleets and can wreak havoc. Then if I want to restock it only takes a few days to reassemble your trade fleets and go back to the quiet life of a trader or plantation owner. I have switched back and forth several times.

The ebb and flow of this game dictates gameplay style. In periods of low activity, the life of a trader is better. In periods of increased activity, the life of a privateer can be quite enjoyable. The ability to switch things up easily and quickly is what I find most enjoyable.

Counter to what some think, this was not a long drawn out and planned exercise. Honestly it was simply out of boredom. It was suggested a few hours before reset and we ran with it. No real planning involved.

Now is it good for the game? Who really knows. Who really cares. This is a game. it is meant to be played and enjoyed. The main thing people don't realize is this game can not be won by any individual or group. Danik is right, empires rise, empires fall. It won't last forever, but it makes things interesting. Things have been stagnant for awhile. Maybe the pot needs to be stirred a bit. Maybe not according to some. But at least enjoy the ride.

Just my 2 cents......... which is probably worth a hell of a lot less than that.
