Many of us enjoy a good sea battle or two, hence the unwillingness of the UK to sign a treaty that would generate hostility from our nation. We do desire to have a peaceful relationship with TK just outside of the terms dictated by the "peace treaty" function of the game.
As I explained in the email when the treaty with TK was voted down. The mechanics of the peace treaty hold no weight what-so-ever. Hostility be the only penalty and that can be simply counter-acted with Hired Diplomats. We sign no treaties now. Yes we have a treaty with IoM, but if Will, Noffin dman... even shadow were to leave VUDU yet stay IoM.... would cancel the treaty. Pirates and Privateers need to eat as well.
I agree 100% that port wars need to be changed to actually have a battle component to them. It is the only game action that is 100% voodoo based. And it isn't who has the most cards that wins, it be who can muster the most turns. Cards be easy to come by.
