  • #1: DANGER MECHANISM! - Make sure you are aware of it! One quick tip is to set your trade routes on 1 hour or longer journeys!
    Details here

Here we need to create a list with common newbie mistakes, so newcomers can benefit from the faults of other, before hand.
In this way we will be able to help them.

Feel free to post your own experiences or known fails. I'll add them in the list from time to time to keep it tidy.

I think the first mistake is not understanding the danger mechanic. Every time your fleet visits a port it gets +1 danger rating. Every hour it gets -1 danger rating. This is important because if your fleet has 3 or more danger rating it can be attacked by other Pirates Glory players. IMPORTANT: if you set up a trade route which takes less than 1 hour to travel from port-to-port then you will be gaining danger faster than it wears off so soon your fleet will have more than 3 danger and will be attackable.

I'm going to bump this thread from the dregs of obscurity because I feel that the information it shares is of vital importance to players, especially newer players. Prior to finding this post I was looking at posting a bug report as the way DR generation was explained to me was that if your feet makes a run that takes longer than an hour then it would NOT gain danger. This obviously is not entirely accurate. The more complete explanation given here, however explains why when I see several trade fleets with a DR of 1 when I log-in.

I would encourage those of you who run guilds, and mentor new players, to ensure that this information is communicated clearly to them as it can alleviate any lingering confusion about DR that may be floating around.

Cheers, and thanks from the future for clarifying the mechanic in the past.

Just started, great info. How about something so I know what is too dangerous to attack?

Another newbie mistake.

When attacking NPC players, make sure not to attack those from the same nation as you or you may find yourself a pirate without a warning!
