Postby Sanji » Wed Mar 22, 2017 1:58 pm

ok,
:wheel so this game is really slow newcomer especially if he joins India, as the ruler has such harsh tax that many can't play and end up quitting the game,(many are still unaware how to change nationality and some can't cause of the 2-3 days rule)

:wheel next there are really strong player u cant attack and if u do attach some weak guy they get u like a hound(the strong ones i mean), so what are new comers suppose to do??

Ps: many players have send me their concerns so its for all of them.

Hello, and welcome to the game!

First of all: In order to succeed in this game, it is very important to join a guild. Look at the existing guilds, talk to their leaders, and find a guild that suits YOU. Do NOT start your own guild, but join an existing one. Send me a PM, and I'll tell you about our guild (the T'zak Ryn).

Second: Nations are not important in the early stages. If your nation has a too high tax, you can stop paying it. This will eventually make you a pirate, but that does not hurt you. Alternatively, you can go to Court -> Visit Governor -> Change nationality, and you'll be given a mission to change nation. The various nations all work differently, and also change over time, so which nation to join depends on your play style. Choose one with a low tax. Certain nations are deliberately "closed" to new players by a high tax (such as India and Niue).

As for strong players - yes, there are lots of strong fleets on the plunder board. Just leave those fleets alone for now. There comes a time when you see such fleets and get dollar signs (doublon signs?) in your eyes, but only if you choose a certain path, and only when you grow considerably stronger. When you join a guild, they will help you find suitable targets.

In summary, think about what play style you like. An JOIN A GUILD! Lots of help is given within most guilds. That's by far the best way to learn and grow.

For all players in India, I simply advice you to stop paying taxes.

Personally, I think that the "choose a nationality" option when you join the game, is a poor one. In my opinion, it would be better if everyone started as pirates. Then there could be a tutorial for how to join a nation, with a short explaination of how to examine the various nations (check their laws and such).

Don't be afraid to go pirate. That gives you zero tax and half upkeep. That's nice for a new player. Most players end up changing nations anyway when the time comes to play the "national aspect" of the game.

Finding a guild should not be too hard. Check the list of guilds. Guild Rankings is the way to go. Take a look at the description of the top ten guilds. Don't bother with the small guilds yet - that's something to consider when you have grown stronger. If you have absolutely no idea about how you want to play the game, then I think maybe Helm or SSAA is a good guild to join. If you think the merchant path is your path, then SSTG or ATC may be the thing for you. If you think you can handle the noble and excruciatingly difficult path of being a mercenary Naval Combat Solutions Provider, apply to the T'zak Ryn.

Pretty sure HELM tries to scoop up most noobs and offers a very comprehensive explanation of how to get started. I am very new and here is what I learned in my short time here. HELM, in my opinion, is probably the best FIRST stop for a noob. However, even though HELM is a training guild, they do not spoon feed. This was tough for me as I typically learn by someone showing me something the first time. They expect you to read and learn on your own and they will address your specific questions. Could there be a bit more of a safety net to perhaps keep from losing some noobs that are just lost and give up? Absolutely, but it would require someone being willing to step up and "lead the horse to water AND make him drink". It is a tall order to be undertaken to help smooth out the steep learning curve to this game. Powerhouse noobs don't just stumble in here daily. If you are not an experienced gamer this game is a bit daunting at first.

First thing is Ship Tax doesn't effect new players until they have used 1000 turns. That's roughly 5 days for a new player, before taxes become a concern.

It is actually quite simple to leave a nation and only requires 8 plunder/skirmish attempts against players/NPCs of your own nations within a 5 hour timespan. 75 Hostility points with your own nation turns you into a Pirate (No Taxes) automatically. No 2-3 days waiting period.

As Haron said, join an established guild that meets your playing style. Training Guilds are always a good start.

This is how you stop paying tax:

1) Click on your gold coin number (upper right area)
2) After the text "xx ships cost you yy per day", click on "Details"
3) Where it says "Nation debts are paid automatically", click "Change"

You'll get a warning message, but click "OK. Now, the tax is only paid manually. So if you don't actively pay, the debt won't be paid - and you will eventually be kicked out of India and become a Pirate. Arrgh! :-)
