Native Festival in Regis

Postby Maha » Tue Nov 29, 2016 11:10 am

In search of treasure and exotic beauty T'zak Ryn sailed in to a newly discovered lagoon southwest of Regis.
Our landing party was in a jolly mood when they followed a small stream inwards. The air was filled with the echo of their shanties.

Only, at the end of their song the echo continued. Out in the jungle were natives singing their songs.

The stream led to a clearing with a small village. Women -oh the women- were busily preparing for a big feast while the men, drunk on fermentent palmjuice (toddy) and dressed in feathers, were preparing war canoes and sharpening spears and dipping darts in a evil smelling substance.

to be continued

---------------

A potbellied man of great statue welcomed us at the fire. The native girls smiled shyly when they gave us donkey meat, roasted potatoes and slices of grapefruit.
The potbellied leader only spoke in haiku's and ignored our attempts to join the conversation. But when we started to sing our shanties again, he replied to what we were singing in a counter verse! These natives spoke in song. What a great anthropological discovery.

We sang till deep in the night and learned a lot of this wild tribe.
To our horror we discovered that their ancient coconut (say 'go go nuts' ) festival was coming up. the natives from allover the neighborhood would, drunk on palm toddy, go out on the sea and attack all ships in sight to honor the sea gods.
one fair maiden brought me, late at night, to a dimly lit cave. There on the wall were pictures of horrible sea creatures. While we watched the sun come up she told me how they sacrificed to the gods whose pictures were on the wall.

Horrified of the coming doom i hurried back to my captain and mates.
the world was not ending, but for some it would.

to be continued..

Our first reaction was to leave the Regis region for a long time. Even while we were discussion my discovery the native population of the village had multiplied tenfold. We had no intention to get firsthand inside knowledge of the inner workings of a sea monster god. Yet, we felt a responsibility to civilization. We could sail way before the native went bonkers on nuts.
But, what if...

At great personal risk, T'Zak Ryn volunteered to mediate between the natives and the seafaring folk of Avonmora. Speaking in limericks (he sings like a rat tied to a bend violin) the great master of naval solutions managed to barter some kind of truce. I was send away when it became clear that T'zak Ryn's top negotiator had found a way to prevent a regional doomsday around Regis. Send off to bring grave tidings of prehistoric horror and murdering natives.

Soon i have to go back, duty and local beauty in a dimly lit cave are calling me back. How will our captain appease the bloodthirsty natives, drunk on toddy and religious frenzy. Are those monstrous gods real? Will they show up?

The tide has changed, I've told my tale and cleared my bill. I have to return now.
My story ends here. For your sake, I hope that my captain will be able to tell you how to deal with those natives. But i am telling you: "Don't go to Regis!"

On December 1st, the natives in Regis start celebrating the Holy Coconut Holidays. These holidays last for four days on end. For this period, the natives wish to be left alone, and will become HOSTILE towards any traders using their port (expect 1-2 HN cards if you trade there during this period). The T'zak Ryn has, however, managed to get in touch with the natives, and are conducting negotiations. They have agreed to not act hostile towards new players - that is, players with IDs above 63000. Other players may be allowed to trade there safely against a certain fee - contact the T'zak Ryn for details. Everyone else should avoid visiting Regis during the Holy Coconut Holidays, or expect to be attacked by Hostile Natives.

We have also been informed that during these holidays, the natives have a ceremony where they feed the monsters in their waters, causing several krakens, and even some leviathans, to come to the area. Since they are being fed by the natives, they usually leave most ships alone, but for some reason, they tend to attack SoLs and MoWs. Scientists still do not understand exactly why, but everyone is adviced to keep such ships away from Regis during these holidays.

Due to the nature of the festival, the natives have agreed to give a discount to people who contact the T'zak Ryn with limericks, haikus or other forms of poetry - or contribute with such in the forums. The Chief also asked us to give a discount to people who only trade in rum, provided his wife isn't informed about that. The fee for such players will generally be very affordable. It will vary from player to player, but may be around 1 credit for a small to medium trader. The natives has limited the total number of traders they will accept, though, so contact us as soon as possible!

For someone who didn't receive many HNs, still surprised you cry about them to this day.
