I see one huge disadvantage against that feature.
Currently you need supplies to build ships and trade.
If one nation controls let's say all wood ports for instance and there is no other way to get wood except that. That could put a huge damper on the game.

If Spain, Egypt, Bermuda and USA went into an alliance and blockaded all other nations. Then everyone but those 4 will suffer.

To do that, they would need to declare war on all other nations. That means everyone could attack their blockades and ports. That would make a lot of action and fun! However, it would also be very, very costly for those nations. So they could always try, but by doing so, they must expect to be attacke by virtually every player in the game not in their nation.

it needs not to be done against all nations, but when vietnam and canada begin recruiting than it is easy to declare war at them before they have the numbers. all potential candidates will think twice before joining warmongering Canada.

strong nation can run a nice extortion racket though :) pay up or move on! poor tokulu has to pay evil spain from their treasury to avoid war.

I have a question Haron,

You mentioned fleets in blockades could only be attacked by fleets from a nation they are at war with. Would this still leave those fleets open to voodoo from nations not at war with the blockade fleet?

the way i read it is that ports cannot be attacked without a state of war; the designated protective fleets are in and around the harbor. they should have a pattern similar to fishing fleets. a few hours out and then a refit in the port. Damage to ships will hasten the need to refit in the port.

when all designated fleets are refitting at the same time, than that port is vulnerable since the blocking force is absent.

just like fishing fleets, the designated fleets can be targeted with voodoo or skirmished. when lit up, they can be attacked as a normal fleet.

an attack on the port is just that. fleets (or armada's) against port defenses which happen to be fleets as well.

(an armada is an nations fleet of fleets. an armada can be assembled by a nation. citizens can contribute a fleet to that nation with the specific purpose of attacking a certain port. players add their fleets at an staging area and lose control over those fleets until after the port attack is over. pirates cannot form armada's since they are lead by a duke or king)

Good question. You are now touching on details I have not posted yet.

However, fleets in blockades would be subject to special rules. That would be necessary to make them not too easy to steal, yet not impossible either. I have made a set up such "special rules" I think should apply to such fleets, but I never saw any reason to dive into such details unless Captain Jack decided that something along the lines of this suggestion would be added. It took some tuning to find a set I believe generated a suitable balance.

The short answer, however, is "no".

hmm would this not create an cheap replacement for the marina? put your MoW's in the blockade and as long as there is no war they are safe from voodoo attacks. not sure this is a good thing

NOT safe! Remember that any pirate can decide to become an enemy of the state and attack them. This means they need some extra protection, since they will always have danger, or no-one will dare put big ships in fleets in fear of losing them. Would YOU want a fleet with MoWs and SoLs sitting around with lots of danger, while also sailing around with an armada of trade fleets, while pirates like AyeCappy and Avery sail around, sizing them up?

They need to be safer than in a "normal" fleet, but definitely not as safe as in the marina. I have some thoughts on how to achieve that, but would appreciate the ideas of others before posting my own. That is, if this ever gets enough interest to be considered for implementation. For now, I think the discussion should more be around "is the general idea if introducing Wars and Blockades a good idea", and if it is, THEN we can discuss details on this level.

When we attack a citizen of our own nation and Hostility becomes more then 75 we automaticly get deported.
What if we say if our hostility becomes greater then 75 against a nation which controls a port our trading fleets are not allowed to enter.
What if we got hostility rank among nations.
Same ranking points as in players.
If a nations hostility becomes greater then (lets say 750). Those nations are automaticly at war.
Trading fleets are blocked. You are not allowed to enter a port which your nation is at war with.
