I do agree mads responded to the title of the thread. However it wasnt constructive.. hence my thoughts about a warning should it happen again.
Same with Leo's post... it wasnt constructive .. but is that a violation ?

Yes a better example, but no madshan's post can still be interpreted as off-topic. A post that holds no bearing to the discussion at hand. As well it can be also seen as a SPAM post. A post that didn't need to be said in the context of the discussion. About as relevant as someone posting "I post in the forums".

You do have a point that being creative can loosely make a post on-topic or related. It's all about how it is interpreted.

If we are seeking stricter enforcement I would probably let the one comment slide. Ignore. If the second was obviously designed by ill intent then first warning.

Id be interested to hear what others have to say about what they would do. This could give us some measure of what is expected of the mods by the community.

Using that logic, any post can be made to be on topic as long as it can loosely be related to the topic at hand.

A prime example of the perplexity of forum moderation.

Here is a post that holds no value to the discussion and thus effectively is off topic.

Off Topic posting is a rule violation.

But how do you handle this....

Do you ignore it as the post isn't really an issue?

Do you remove the post or move it to it's own topic?

Do you post an informal warning?

Do you issue an official warning?

Do you issue a ban for a rule violation?

All of those options are valid, but which do you choose....

It's clearly a violation laid out in the rules. Please tell me which option you choose.

It was a comment made about why there is low forum participation of which this thread is clearly and unarguably about.
