however the one of mine that follows requires a ban

But that's not enforcing the rules as written.

A prime example of the perplexity of forum moderation.

Here is a post that holds no value to the discussion and thus effectively is off topic.

Off Topic posting is a rule violation.

But how do you handle this....

Do you ignore it as the post isn't really an issue?

Do you remove the post or move it to it's own topic?

Do you post an informal warning?

Do you issue an official warning?

Do you issue a ban for a rule violation?

All of those options are valid, but which do you choose....

It's clearly a violation laid out in the rules. Please tell me which option you choose.

If we are seeking stricter enforcement I would probably let the one comment slide. Ignore. If the second was obviously designed by ill intent then first warning.

Id be interested to hear what others have to say about what they would do. This could give us some measure of what is expected of the mods by the community.

I disagree..... it is on topic, but holds no value.

Not in the strictest sense.

What makes your choice correct though. It can clearly be questioned as not enforcing the rules. If you were a moderator, I could easily state that you aren't doing your job.

Now here is a valid example.....

But if he had posted...

*walks in*

*looks around*

*Sees no valid reason to post*

*leves*

that would be precisely on topic.

title of the thread is

"~~~WHAT STOPS YOU POSTING IN THE FORUMS?~~~"

being creative and indirectly answering the question posed.

Perhaps Dez this is where we differ in perceptions.

I do not see it as a forum violation in any way.

It was a comment made about why there is low forum participation of which this thread is clearly and unarguably about.

I do agree mads responded to the title of the thread. However it wasnt constructive.. hence my thoughts about a warning should it happen again.
Same with Leo's post... it wasnt constructive .. but is that a violation ?

It is on topic.

The topic posed a question.

~~~WHAT STOPS YOU POSTING IN THE FORUMS?~~~
Mad offered this thread as an example of what she doesn't post.
No violation
No value is not a violation
