Well, my first ship has 9 on both round shot and bronze cannon, with the rest scattered pretty evenly, to start with some heavy damage
My second has 9 and 10 on Copper Plating and Bronze cannon to hit and try to avoid being hit.
3rd one is even all round
4th has 9 on round shot, bronze cannon and iron to make it powerful, not so good on dodging though
And the 5th has 8 on all the top four
(the sails and hammocks tend to be about 5 on all of them)

Ship1: lost to the opponent, had 54 life left
Ship2: destroyed this ship, taking 147 damage first
Ship2: Lost, leaving opponent with 202 life left
Ship3: Beat the other ship, but took 338 damage in the process
Ship3: Lost, leaving the opponent with 81 life left
Ship4: Beat the other ship, attacking first, so taking no damage
Ship4: Lost, leaving the opponent with 108
Ship5: Beat other ship, taking 149 damage
Ship5: Won with 5 life left.

Close all the way, so not really sure about how good the differeces are, especially without knowing the opponents set up! But having one that fires first in a close match in the middle can help even things up, other than that not really sure what can be drawn from it >.<

Came down to luck of the draw methinks!

Perhaps the last ship of the other player was a weak one. Perhaps it would be a good strategy to position as strong ship as last because from what I have seen with upgrades, they mostly play a role when there are differences between ships.

I think that the total amount of attributes allocated to ships should be reduced in order to have more different approaches on ship building.
Perhaps we could even add special captains :P (crew experience + more).
