In a few hours (Just under 4 hours now) it would be 108 years since the Titanic slipped to the bottom of the ocean.

Anyone watched Titanic today, be honest.

I for one am a huge nerd on the Titanic. What are your opinions/thoughts about it. The ship Titanic; not the film.

I saw a program recently that said more recent investigations showed a bulkhead was warped so rivets didn't hold...and any impact would likely have had the same outcome..if I can find the pic again I'll post it..you can actually see the bulge..Don't know why it's taken so long to
make public..over 100 yrs later..The doco suggested owners were aware of the bulge but time, money and publicity forced launch to take place on time and it was not repaired.
I guess White Star can't be sued 100 years on.?

Also the coal fire started in the engine room not long after leaving port. Apparently the coal was burning for hours from underneath at the bottom of the coal storage and couldn't be noticed....and when brought to light..it was too late. There was no hope to put it out.I believe that swollen bulkhead was the engine room ..

It was a nice ship, but it and it's family had awful luck. It sank, and so did it's sister ship the Britanic. There was a third, forget if it had a bad ending, I think it did. Need to check to make sure.

The Olympic survived until 1937, when it was scrapped. Britanic was sunk whilst carrying injured wounded men; was decalred a war crime at the time but they hit a sea mine...

And as we know; sea mines do not care much if the vessel be carrying wounded...

RMS Titanic sunk.
RMS Gigantic renamed Brittanic when converted into a hospital ship : sunk by mine in WW1.
RMS Olympic : a long life ended when scrapped in 1930's.


Odd fact : Britian ran a ship-building subsidy scheme for many years : those ships built under it could be called up in time of war. Thus Gigantics sad end. Olympic was famed as a reliable and confortable troopship, much like Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary in WW2. To complete that tradition, the Cunard ship QE2 was called up for the Falklands Task Force in 1980's and converted to a pre-planned hospital ship configuration literally in days.

One of our new players wouldn't be here if her great grandma wasn't left at home with babysitter while parents perished on Titanic. Anyone else?

Just learned today : a nurse named Wesson survived the sinking of the Titanic. She also served on and survived the sinking of the Brittanic (ex Gigantic). To complete the set, she was aboard the Olympic when it survived a collision with a British warship. That is some luck.

Yes. An officer on board the Titanic Charles Lightoller survived the Titanic Sinking, a nazy Zeppelin when he was in a destroyed and Dunkirk (Was being bombed by a Stuka).

If you are interested in Titanics history, I would recommend looking at Titanic Honor and Glory. They have a 2 hour real time sinking documentary, explaining what happened step by step; and a whole bunch of information in general about infamous sinkings (Britanic Real Time sinking, too)

both bad and good honestly. The bad luck being in all those places when terrible things happened. The good being surviving all of them. Sort of like the man who got struck by lightning something like 7 or more times.

Why were they injuring wounded men? Not surprised that's a war crime.
