Honestly pretty much anything is bad when its taken to the extreme. Hell even water the "essence of life" as many call it will kill you if you drink too much of it. Too much freedom like anarchy ends up bad, No freedom like dictatorships end up bad, Extremists of pretty much any religion are usually bad. Sadly though its not easy to moderate these things. actually basically impossible since the only thing a person can control 100% is themselves(and sometimes not even that).

Danik, that is what is meant by tyranny. The government taking away or infringing on your God given rights. The first 10 Amendments of the Constitution define and protect these rights.

Yes it would be tyranny. I'm not answering any further on that line of questioning. The US Constitution was influenced based on Christian values and morals and the belief in God. Just because someone doesn't believe in God, doesn't mean they don't have rights.

''Who take up the sword, will die by the sword'' :duel ... old proverb, but so true and always actual.
Or better to say: ''Live by the gun, die by the gun.''
I will never understand why the weapons are so important to many of you...

Seems like this is about to go from one controversial issue to another :D. But Dez something you need to take into consideration is what you define as your God-given rights another person might see as tyranny. Different people have different values and beliefs. In some cultures certain groups are essentially second class citizens. In some areas slavery might be seen as acceptable. Or that its perfectly fine for a man to have multiple wives, or cousins to marry. I think the most universal human rights at the moment is the ones defined by the UN. but even then there are places that do not conform to them.

It's about 2000 years old and was said by Jesus. The proverb by itself is out of context.

Judas had just betrayed Jesus with a kiss and an unknown disciple drew his sword and struck off the ear of a servant of one of the Pharisees. Jesus responded with "Return your sword to its place, for all who will take up the sword, will die by the sword."

My response on tyranny was directly related to the discussion of the purpose of the 2nd Amendment (gun ownership) and the US Constitution as a whole.

The UN is no place to look for human rights standards.

Feniks wrote:Just as quick point of reference. According to FBI statistics, there are 25 million legal privately owned firearms in the state of Texas alone. But Deez is correct. The second amendmaent was put in place to prevent a tyrannical government from taking away all of our inherent rights.

A bit of a History lesson on how to control a population.

#1 Take away their firearms.
#2 Take away their right to free speech.
#3 Control their Healthcare.

Now if anyone can tell me where this came from I have a little prize for you.

I suspect you are referring to Saul Alinsky.
