It didnt used to have a 50mil limit. Previously it showed the player with the most coin on hand at the time you looked. So you could get shown with much less in your purse. It got changed about the time hideouts were introduced as more players were hilding large purses what with banks, gold bars and keeping goldsmiths running and trading.
Its not that much of an issue, unless you have a high cashflow and dont log-in regularily to clear it down. Then its not so much a game issue as the players issue arising from not considering a risk factor. There are more than one. Large numbers of fleets hitting the same port at the same time is another 'highlight' wiser players seek to minimise. Showing on 'most profitable fleet' metric attracts attention too.
In your place I'd consider ways to both minimise accumulation by maybe setting plants to store, use my fleets to trade stocks to other ports, etc. The easiest is to just pop-in daily to keep an eye on funds and fixing it then. Another useful tool is to run a goldsmiths and turn the income into bars, which will be handy in turn for your plants.
Its all about balancing it. High income brings great bank balances but carrys its own risks too. Showing on the metrics is one. Its the players responsibility to alleviate those risks. I dont see the devs changing things just to make it easier not to play daily. Quite the opposite. Its not an 'idle' game.
