In addition or not with the new gold goin formula ( viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1809 ) we believe that a change to the Sink Chance is in order.

Current Sink chance is as follows:

1 to 3 Ships: 0% Sink Chance (Ships never lose a level)
4 to 10 Ships: 2% Sink chance
11 to 25 Ships: 5% Sink Chance
26 to 50 Ships: 25% Sink Chance
51 to 100 Ships: 33% Sink Chance
101 to 150 Ships: 50% Sink Chance
151 to 200 Ships: 75% Sink Chance
201 or more Ships: 100% Sink Chance (Ships always lose a level)


Instead, we propose a lighter sink chance

1 to 10 Ships: 0% Sink Chance (Ships never lose a level)
11 to 25 Ships: 5% Sink Chance
26 to 50 Ships: 10% Sink Chance
51 to 100 Ships: 15% Sink Chance
101 to 150 Ships: 25% Sink Chance
151 to 200 Ships: 33% Sink Chance
201 to 300 Ships: 50% Sink Chance
301 or 400 Ships: 75% Sink Chance
400 or more ships: 100% Sink Chance (Ships always lose a level)


AND a bonus plunder to attacker whenever this happens. For example, the plunderer gets the 25-50% of the ship level lost in gold coins.
This bonus will not be removed from the player treasury, but it will be generated from the game through the ship level loss.

The amount that the plunderer receives (25%-50%) can be modified through other ways later (specialization).

Example:
Player Demo Queen sails a fleet that has a Large Merchantman Level 10 at its tail. Demon Queen has 132 ships.

Pirate Lord attacks her fleet with his Brig of War! He wins the battle! During the battle, Demon Queen has 25% chance to see her ship losing a level. Unfortunately for her, her luck is bad and the ship loses the level.

The plunderer then, will receive (let's say...) 50% of the level value. Since the level 10 LMM costs about 300K, the plunderer will receive an extra 150k for his purse.

Pirate Lord will also receive about 50k from normal plunder rules.

Therefore the full result would be:

Demo Queen lost 50k and 1 level of her ship. (55k if Pirate Lord had Advanced Piracy)
Pirate Lord won 200k (220k if he had Advanced Piracy on)

+1 Although the sink chance helps Merchants out a lot, it also helps Pirates when the Vengence comes out, whilst it helps the pirates as well!

So A MASSIVE +1 To this, as if this comes out, the others wont matter to pirates. :P

Any chance to look at the fame ratio too? I feel like when a player from 2 mil+ gets hit they lose a massive amount

Fame is a nonsense currently : yet another case for me of capping 3 capital ships over 4 hits... gained 416 fame : one defence on that fleet : lost 750k fame. Its not the first time this has happened and it means I treat fame as a pointless parameter in the game when having less than 50 ships means you lose it by the shedload regardless of any notable successes gaining you naff all.

Aye...good move. It was rather harsh on traders if they had over 200 ships and this change will help alleviate losses merchants can suffer if they expose themselves to danger or retaliatory strikes.

Our design will continue to support the golden ships number of 200 ships.
This is why that all the game design takes in mind this number. Anything above this, justs increases difficulty (or makes someone filthy rich in most cases). It is not something we bother our dev minds much. It is a player's decision and trouble.
So, with this in mind, anyone with 200 ships or less will only suffer 33% penalty. This is definitely a bonus for such a player.

Another bonus he will get, is reduced chance of getting assaulted. As the sink chance will lay a role in picking targets. Obviously, the higher the sink chance, the bigger target you will be. Why one should go after a guy with 200 ships or less when the sink chance is only 33%? When there are targets with more ships.

So, it is perhaps a bit hasty to speak for bonuses for people with more 200 ships. Although, the ship number has always been a factor in target selection.

It seems funny to use the words penalty and bonus almost in the same sentence when they mean opposite things.

Understood regarding the magic 200 ship number.
Just for reference, as a hunter/gatherer such as myself, when I see a fleet lit and it looks like the owner will lose a ship, unless it is a grudge hit, I'll pass it up as, a sunken ship yields no or very little profit to me or the recipient of the strike.

Currently, same thing with purse size. If I am not going to make enough profit, again, unless a grudge hit, I do not want the danger imposed on me to chance winning 10k when I can earn 10k in a couple hours of trade with very little risk.
