The 'recyc' idea does chime with past ideas about 'Witchdoctors Huts' and creating voodoo. Maybe that could be the mechanic used. A hide-out building with techs that improve your recipes and chances of creating a given card from a feedstock of other cards. It might even involve 'sacrificing' gold bars to the Gods of Chance. How about it acting as a form of Tidal Wave to draw cards from inactives chests? That would act to stop any 'inflation' in the mix of cards in the game.
I think if any cap was put in place, and there are good arguments for one, then current chests must have a way to 'dwindle' without loss of the value invested in them.
I for one would be happy with a chest if 500 of the most useful cards for my chosen game-style than 5000 cards of which 4600 are wasted space.

I know I'm kinda late on this one, but I do think that there should be a limit on voodoo chest size. Honestly, it fits in with the rest of the game: turns are limited, fleets are limited [by captains, etc.], warehouses have limited storage. You guys catch my drift.

And I also would like there to be more chance in sea battles. Like in reality pirate crews could try to board unnoticed and take the ship over. As a newer player it is frustrating seeing only fleets that my fleets have no chance against.

Captains can be obtained by Bribe Voodoo. So not exactly limited.

lol we don't have thousand of cards ... we have no chance against some overpowered fleets, and if the game pushes newborns in only playing against NPC, the community isn't involved anymore. it is only a game of npc vs player.

I think the OP comes from the blanket action of the card not the idea of voodoo itself. If it were localized, say to a specific port. It would be more balanced.

Maybe one way to ballance out the ships ballance issue between noobs and vets, is to add a little bit of luck to the battle. 10% change the lesser fleet wins. (make up some reason, rogue wave, cyclone hits fleet, daniks donkeys put on a show after fluffing and distract crew)

I don't agree with making a new players fleet win any easier. A new guys learns very quickly some fleets you stay away from. Doing the national ranks helps prepare you for the real world. There is going to be trade fleets that are ripe enough for a Sow fleet to handle..and then there is some it will not.
Point is, use those stronger fleets to wipe your 18 dp so you can start over again. Do three strikes, take one hit. repeat.
As your money, knowledge of who to avoid grows, so will your experiences, wealth and knowledge.
Making fleets easier to defeat is not a way to challenge yourself or develop your own personal strategy.

Pretty much missed the point I was trying to make.
It isn't a hard limit it's a practical limit, at some point captains become disgustingly expensive. However, all you have to do to get voodoo is log on and click a couple times and you get voodoo.
