Seriously Mel..... in the last 2 weeks there has been a total of about 240 posts comments. There are 7-8 forum mods/. That is a total of 2-3 comments per day per forum Mod. That is not as large a task as you make it seem.

Now I know you can not split so each mod reads this or that..... but with the number of forum mods you have add the slow nature of the forums at the moment, there is no reason every post cant be covered by mods.

I know that for my part I will rarely report anything because of the response.... or lack thereof.... I have received in the past. Easier to simply ignore it and return to my corner and not bother with forums. A few others have said the same.
.
The excuse you have given is invalid This whole thread would take about 10 minutes to read. 10 minutes by one of 7-8m forum mods is not too much to ask. That is the job of a forum moderator. If you simply wait until someone reports an issue then you have way too many moderators. I would think that if you wait until someone reports an issue, you could handle it all on your own.

Should be another poll choice. The problem isn't people not posting its a sheer complete lack of people to post because the GAME IS DEAD

If you wait until someone reports an issue then being a forum mod is easy as hell because both you and Dez have stated issue are rarely reported.

Again, mods can not be expected to read every single post that is made. Not to mention AGAIN, we are not bots, I can't just say to one mod "you read all of X posts" and assign them like guards to a post. Mods are to look at the reports to see if any issues have popped up, as well as read the forums if they have the free time to do so.

If I don't see any reports made, then I assume that there is no issue to worry about. I am not a bloody mind reader, I am not magic despite my jokes about being an old sea witch. If no one lets me know there is an issue, then I am not going to be able to find and handle an issue. You expect us mods to read every post that is made, and handle any issues while openly admitting to not reporting the issues you have.

Mods should not be expected to do all the bloody work by themselves. The report button exists for a reason. So non mods can report violations, that can alert mods to a problem. You don't bloody criticize a cop for not investigating a crime if no one calls them about it, so why would you criticize mods for not dealing with issues you don't report?

Edit- also another issue is that when a mod does an action, often times the community might not see what was done. If, for example I banned someone for a week, unless that person let's folks know in game, no one would really know about said ban. We also are not supposed to share a lot of the punishments that are dealt out. Perhaps that could be a change-to more openly allow folks to see what actions were taken. When I see a report, I always take an action. But that action is rarely shown to anyone other then mods and the person involved.

Be discreet and maintain confidentiality regarding moderator activities and member information.
The above is one of the moderator code of conducts. I think perhaps if we amended it to just protecting information, but not mod activities that would help. People seem to think that we do nothing with reports. The truth is we do, we just have to be discreet about it. Which I think may be causing a large issue.

Well then seems to me you have way to many Mods.

I know being a leader is hard, but if people can't commit to doing the job then they should not volunteer. As the admin, it is your responsibility to delegate. If you had read the whole forum you would have seems my post about "volunteers".

If you volunteer for something, you are agreeing to commit some time and effort to something. If you cant fulfil those duties then don't volunteer. As the leader, you need to lay down the expectations and hold people to their commitments.

As I said to Dez earlier, the voting in this thread shows there is an issue, and pretty much told you what the issue is. Your response is to blame the players for not doing this thing or that, deflecting and making excuses.

The player base is telling you what they want either listen and try and fix the issue or ignore it and let the forums die completely.

Where this goes from here is up to you. Forum moderation is your responsibility. Instead of making excuses and deflecting, step up and fix it.

I have told both Dez and Argo I will do my part to make the forums active again, but need a commitment from mods that there will be a lot more involvement. I don't need to agree with decisions but simply being present and letting people know you are present..... like Dez does..... goes a very long way.

The ball is in your court now. There are several good suggestions in this thread. What is your vision for the forums? That is all that matters. Attitude is a reflection of leadership. You are the leader. If you make a legitimate effort to make a change, people will see it and change their behavior as well.

As I said in my post- yes, I could do more, and be more active. I am not deflecting. I am pointing out a very big issue-the fact that reports are almost never made. I have seen it happen so very often that people will complain about lack of action, yet no reports are made along with said complaints.

We also are expected by CJ to try to keep things discreet. This I think may have backfired. I am not blaming anyone. I am noting a serious problem. It also does not help when folks try to pin all the troubles and issues on the mods. Yes, we could certainly do better, but when the very community constantly complains and criticizes while doing little to help, that does nothing but make things harder for us.

I'd love to see the forums get more active. If you post more, that would be great. If someone comes along and breaks a rule, then please report it. Don't just complain that us mods are not helping you, when you don't even take the time to make a 1 minute report. That saves us mods tons of time from reading a bunch of text that we may not be interested in.

The community needs to work with the mods, and the mods need to work with the community. Things only get much harder when folks do nothing but bicker and complain about what the other side is or is not doing. You have mentioned some of the faults of the mods, and I have mentioned some of the faults of the community. I'm willing to try to work things out and improve, so I hope the community will do the same. Neither side is blameless in this. Not me, not the mods as a whole, and not the community.

Mods grow stale.
Again, I think term limits for the moderators is a step in the right direction.

I also have to agree on Feniks post with over 80% of his points made.
I don't want to hear excuses.

I want to see responsible forum management with common sense actions.
unfortunately, common sense means different things to different people.
For that reason Mod appointee's by vote would work. If the mod does a lousy job, they get replaced at the end of the decided term

Mel.. with all due respect.. I think what has been put forth is that reporting seems pointless. Nothing appears to happen bc nothing changes.
I do believe with the team of mods we have we can cover the map over a 24 hours period shared.
There are 2 reports there right now.

A perfect opportunity to run through what happens now ... for the satisfaction of the community who want to be assured something will be done with their reports.

Mods appointed by vote?
I'm only here for Game Development and Forum Moderation.

If you see a forum rule violation, report the post.

Those reports were made after I pointed out the lack of reports. Which is good- now I can view the reports, and take an action without needing to comb through all these posts looking for the issues.

And as I mentioned, I feel that the mod conduct rule of being discreet may be causing a lot of the issues. We are expected by Cj to try to keep out actions discreet when possible. Plus rules about talking about actions taken. I think this has had the nasty side effect of making it seem like reports do nothing. This is not the case- when I see a report, I do take an action. Something is always done when dealing with reports. However I do not tell the one who reported what I did, or that their report was handled most the time. Since I am expected to be discreet.

I will talk to CJ about possible changing that rule.

I am also open to the idea of mods being voted in, rather then me picking them. Again, I admit, things can be done better on the mods side. I just want to point out that the community needs to work with us as well. Both sides need to work together.
