In breaking news....

A hurricane earlier today inthe Bermuda area has hit the fleets of Sir James Bond, reducing them from 103 vessels to just four.

Meteorologists are speculating that the whirlwinds were the result of a foolish attempt to use voodoo, but one shorts-wearing commentator said "See man, these winds blow away the little gnats and bring some fine ships to our shores..."

An update.

It is now clear that substantial portions of 'Sir' James Bond's fleets have been swept into Spanish waters. A shorts-wearing commentator said "Hee hee hee!".

A passing-out ceremony was held at the Bermudan Military Academy this afternoon. This marked the final promotion of the first officer to pass through all ranks from Captain to Admiral under the nation's incentive bonus scheme.

The Director of the Academy said "We find many aspiring officers of other nations put themselves into great debt while developing their fleets and undertaking promotion missions. Here in Bermuda we have a more enlightened policy, rewarding success. The nation's parliament has voted to award the following bonuses: 100,000gc on becoming Captain; 200,000gc to Majors; 500,000gc to Colonels; and 1,000,000gc to newly minted Admirals. We are hoping to promote many more worthy officers."

A shorts-wearing commentator said "The tax in Bermuda is low for citizens and military ranks as well! They've never had it so good! Hee hee hee!"

My Leader: No. God would have mercy. He won't.

The Bermudan Admiralty issued the following comunique at 09:00 this morning

"Hee hee hee!"

{Ed: no, that's the wrong one!]

"Bermuda is a peaceful nation. We (and our friends in the SSTG) seek to be friends with all and enemies to none. We do not seek trouble, feuds or wars.

"However, we will not sit back and be abused: if provoked we will respond decisively. We especially abhor the use of aggressive voodoo against our citizens. The recent punitive expedition (now successfully concluded) against 'Sir' James Bond should demonstrate this to all on-lookers."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In other Bermudan news, the return of a long lost friend is being celebrated, with the doors to the rum warehouse being thrown open to all.

No mention yet as to what happen to all his ships and those voodoo cards. [Ed- down the back of the sofa?]

The following reply was received in the Bermudan Admiralty following their communique of earlier today

F*ll!!!!Loki is the player who made you before you left your guild.

I can do what iwant and the sstg raid on me aint over until the****
are no longer with standing.

A spokesman has indicated that a response will be forthcoming once the message has been translated into English.

It seems that in the petulant immature mind that drafts such messages, driving ships onto the rocks is preferable to loosing them in battle. 'Sir' James Bond will soon be revising his avatar to reflect the fact that he has cut off his own nose.

IS BERMUDA TOP-HEAVY?

With eleven of her twenty-seven players ranked as Duke or above, some are asking if Bermuda is all generals and no soldiers.

When the question was put to him a Bermudan spokesman took a thoughtful draw on his pipe.

"Some might say so, but it's not true. It's a reflection of the strength of Bermuda that it has a high proportion of active players. Savvy pirates come to us because of our low taxes for junior ranks. They then see the generous support (hard cash!) we give to members who are promoted. It's a great incentive to develop within the game."

"Having said that, we're always keen to accept new citizens. Despite our mutually beneficial relationship with the SSTG, they don't have to be members of that Guild. Anyone can enjoy the benefits of Bermudan weather and fine rum!"
