Thought I just had for the cutter. I see it as a scout ship.

Perhaps one of its abilities could be seeing fleets docked in a port that do not have danger. The ability could allow 1 random ship to be see up to 10 at level 10, all random if more than 10 or in that port.

To upgrade this ability perhaps a cutter gains points every time it docks in a new port. The more you travel the more points and further you can upgrade.

Just a quick thought, havnt spent too much time on this concept yet.

I think I suggested an ability like this called crows nest or lookout. I think it a cool idea.

Might even make a lookout ability for a cutter provide 2 bits of info.

Levels 1-8 provide the ability to see random dock fleets as mentioned and..

Level 9 - can see the total attributes of any ship in a fleet that is lit.

Level 10 (max level) - shows the attribute allocation of any ship within a fleet that is lit.

I am back and forth on reading this.
Part of me thinks it is a really great ability.

But showing ATT allocation seems super powerful to me. I think maybe seeing the ships in ports and increasing the number of visible fleets with levels is good, but total ATT should be top level and capped there. That's my 2 cents.

I feel like this idea could be a game changer, and I am not sure what I think about it because of that. I like people not knowing the ATT points (and allocation) of my ships. Do I want to put that on the line for me to be able to see some other player's ATT points? I don't know. This would change gameplay for me if this happened. I do not know yet if I would like that. My inclination right now is that the allocation is too powerful and even that seeing the total attributes of a ship is too powerful. I am leaning toward seeing a range of ATT points and a hint on attribute placement would be better. For example, "The Large Merchantman in Fleet X has 22-25 total attribute points on the ship, and it seems to go a little faster than other similar Large Merchantman ships." might be good. I am hesitant right now to want it to go beyond that.

I agree with Slindur.

In my opinion, ship specialities should be minor effects. They should not be comparable to what you can do with voodoo, since a speciality is an intrinsic effect, whereas voodoo costs resources and is expended for its effects.
