@Psycodad
First of all, I am not taking it personally. My apologies if I sounded like this. I am commenting on the Skirmish. I said above to everyone that I will keep replying. On a side note, on new features launch, I prefer to be direct to players on what it is wrong, in order to give a clear picture of what the feature is about. It is understandable that the feature is so new, that most will be unaware of even its basic expectations.
I want to inform you that the Skirmish feature is a collaborate work, a feature that has been created alongside with the playerbase in the past four months. It all started from here:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1352&p=14429#p14429 Perhaps you could read the first post at least, to see which the original objective was. The discussion there, brought the suggestion in a preliminary form and then, 4 months later, we have implemented the Skirmish feature, a name suggested by players. I think that this is a good proof that this is everyone's game.
So,let me now speak to everyone again while responding to the rest of the issues put.
My life as a Pirate - True storyRegarding Pirates. Piracy in Pirates Glory is a hard task. I am speaking from first hand.
I created a test character. A secret one. Now, when I create a character -in any game-, before I create him, I make a picture of him. I create a background story for him. I spend time to design him. By the time I am done, I know who the character is and what he wants. The character has his own will which is certainly different than mine. This is called roleplay.
So, this character I created, was born in the United States. When he was young, he set sail as a landrubber on a merchant ship which has fallen into the hands of Pirates. As he was young, he was taken by the Pirates as a crew member. With years he earned a place among the crew and especially the Captain of the Ship, who had him like the son he never had. Piracy became a way of life for him as he has never seen anything else. At some point, the Captain died and the crew named him as their new Captain. He took the wheel in pride and brought his ship in Tortuga. This is where the story of my character in the game begun.
Obviously, this guy was a Pirate so he started doing what he knew. Plundering.
I had huge
fun AND
success with this character which I kept for about 1 week.
By the end of the week, I had all the
popularity I could have asked for (if there is one thing you get as a Pirate, then this is popularity/recognition - not sure how to express it,perhaps in one word: Fame). Numerous interactions with multiple other players. Invitations to join from all major guilds. A good war fleet. Money in the banks. Although I have not got any credits, I earned quite a lot of them by utilizing presents through the market. In this way I managed to get the voodoo I needed at that point (mostly for NPC farming) and I kept enough credits so I can keep buying turns (again,for NPC farming).
I also got something I wanted to avoid. I got a few merchant ships. My crafty pirate, ended up that in order to advance faster in the domination of Avonmora that he so much wanted, a small trading fleet was necessary. So he also started the creation of trading fleets.
The week passed and the character has been abandoned to his fate (or destiny) as I could not attend him anymore. He still sails and I exchange a word or two with him, from time to time. The Pirate experience helped us in multiple dimensions and through this experience we have kept some points that the players who choose a Pirate life need. Skirmish discussion was prior to this experience, for the record but surely the experience helped.
What is importantSo, what is important for us, is to provide the tools to those that want to follow a path. Skirmish is one of the tools that a Pirate needs, for a lot of different reasons.
RoleplayWe should not forget roleplay. Most players here roleplay a character. Just because they steal your gold in-game, this does not make them evil. This makes their character evil, perhaps, but surely not the player. It's a game, a roleplaying game.
StrategyWhenever a new strategy appears, it does not declare all former strategies null and void. A new strategy however will almost certainly need configurations, new strategies to win it. With skirmish, a lot of new strategies come to the game. Do not let Avonmora Herald terrify you. There are ways to turn Skirmish into a win-win situation. Remember, you all get the same arsenal.
