The Great Guild Debate - The Guild Games

THE GUILD GAMES

What is this, there will be a topic, and each guild will use their wits to gain debate points, the guild with the most debate points in the end wins.

How do I gain debate points?
Whenever you make an argument that appeals to the moderators as a good point to make, you gain a guild point
Whenever you make an argument that destroys an opponents argument, they lose a point, and you gain theirs

Rules?
You must be respectful, and roleplay
You may only ask questions, and a follow up statement to the question.
You are allowed follow up questions.
You may only make 1 statement, per question, or follow ups.

Confused Yet? Don't be.
Example:

Fox's Q: Are you sure that this chicken is a chicken.
-
TMN's A: Yes, we are sure.
-
Fox's Follow up Q: Does [TMN] believe there legitimate reasons for a chicken to cross the road?
-
TMN's A: Yes, [TMN] agree there are legitimate reasons for a chicken to cross the road.
-
Fox Statement: Because there are legitimate reasons for a chicken to cross the road, we must pursue every possibility, not just my [TMN]'s possibility of, "to get to the other side" [TMN] considering that there are other legitimate reasons, then the chicken could have crossed the road because it was too chicken, not to.
-
+1 ~ Roi

(Now, if we decide that is a good point to make, we will add a point to it, in a separate post, stating +1)
Then, TMN will get there chance to ask questions.

Question Time?
Because this is a confusing topic, you guys can first ask question to make clarification before the debate topic is released.

For more clarification:
(Whenever I saw "we" I mean the moderators)
each moderator gives their own points so if i think it is good I'd give a +1 but if Spastic doesn't think it is good then Spastic wouldn't give a plus one. You can get a total of +4 or +3 depending on if Capt.Jack gives points too.
We have a separate post that we all edit that looks like this:
RoiLeon Points: PK: 3 RUM: 1

Capt. Blue Points: PK: +1 RUM: +2

Spastic Points: PK: -2 RUM +3

Then at the end we tally up all our points to see who would win that topic.
Each guild should only have 1 debater to keep it organized but us mods can't compete because of course, we're giving out points.
For how long the debate would be should be a certain # of turns. So if you ask a question then they ask a question then it has been 1 turn, because both sides have made their statements. So each time it switches to the other guild's turn to ask questions, when they finish their statements or follow ups, then 1 turn has been completed. Like innings in baseball.
This should be in a tournament format, so different forums where 2 guilds debate. And if you win your debate, you go to the next round and so on.

Guilds should sign up by posting who will be their debater, we need an even # of tournament brackets.
ATC
PK

Fox
TMN

ASoT
RUM

This topic is (such as rules) are malleable and still under construction. I'm opening this up early so that people may suggest changes.

Well given that debates are usually based around only one topic, an example for this being something like a presidential debate as a rule I would propose that debaters be given ample time to research a topic they both agree on before the debate begins.

The debate would be game based on some pointless role-play event. Doing lots of research will be in game research.
We are actually still looking at possible topics, so we are open for those suggestions.

I had figured that the topic would be a in game topic and would require in game research but to at least allow players to familiarize themselves on the topic if they have not looked it up before give them time to look up the topic and read a bit into it this way if one dabater is not familar with the topic they may look it up and see if it is a topic that can be agreed on before it is set in stone and in between posts they could read further into it and devise more challenging questions and answers as well as providing good entertainment for everyone.

Agreed.
If there isn't anymore need for clarification I'd like to ask each guild's debater to say so here so that we know how many we have participating and such.
I would love if RUM and ASoT could participate as it is really needed to fill the brackets with.

I will debate on behalf of RUM. And as ATC is the largest guild they can have a mass debater

My suggestion for debate is should countries give back territories won on foreign soil to the country they won it off. Many with great sea battles.

eg England give Gibraltar back to the Spanish. Spain give back Ceuta to the Morrocans. Taiwan back to the chinese etc.
