When you get ranks while fighting will getting say 50 of 50 ranks get you a point of loyalty toward the missions?

Yes it's in the mision's description.
Edit: or not I don't remember. But when you complete the mission your loyalty points definitely go up.

When you start a nation mission for your next title, you are given Sub missions a long with a total amount of loyalty points required to complete the title mission.

Each sub mission is worth loyalty points. You can complete any of these sub missions at your discretion and in any order. You just need to complete enough of them to give you the required loyalty total to complete the title mission.

Note also that you do not get to keep excess loyalty points. So if there are missions for 2, 3, 4 and 5 points, and you need 10 loyalty points for next rank, then doing the 3, 4 and then 5 missions only gives you the 10 points, the excess 2 points are lost.

Very important to note this, as you can waste a lot of time and resources trying to complete all the sub-missions when you don't need to. Probably should notate that in a game tutorial or in a disclaimer within the main missions.
